- 1. Any petroleum product produced by boiling crude oil and collecting the vapours produced as a condensate in a separate vessel. Most refinery products can be classed as distillates; for example petrol (light distillate), gas oil (middle) or fuel oil (heavy).2. The product of distillation obtained by condensing the vapors from a refinery still, also known as overhead fractions, as distinguished from the non-vaporizing residual components left in the still.
